Field Notes #1: Hello and Welcome
Greetings!
Five months ago, I left journalism to help Matt Doheny get elected to Congress. As I started to make the transition from hack to flack, I wondered what I’d miss most about the career I was leaving behind.
I miss the daily ritual of writing – taking an idea or an argument and putting it in my own voice. I miss the rush of hitting my stride in a story – and, funny enough, the occasional torture of editing to make my ideas clearer and more engaging.
While my desire to write a campaign blog is selfish, I believe my goals are not.
This blog will be a road diary – a collection of stories about the quirky places, fun people and offbeat moments I experience in the next year. There will also be a bit of ranting about general issues, although I promise to keep the truly fruitcake stuff in check. I hope you enjoy it. And since good political discourse is never one-sided, I urge you to connect with me on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Or, you know, an e-mail would do too.
