Doheny Blasts Health Care Ruling, Owens

The Watertown Daily Times' "The Public Interest" reports:

 

A January ruling from President Obama's administration is fueling a political debate that sits at the nexus of health care, religion and birth control.

The decision requires insurance plans at Catholic institutions — colleges are one example — to provide contraceptives to employees. Catholic groups, including the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg, have religious objections to contraception.

Republican Matt Doheny and his potential November opponent for the north country's congressional seat, Democratic Rep. Bill Owens, are both Catholic.

Mr. Owens was interviewed by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise's Chris Morris on the matter, and didn't call for any sort of change to the law.
